The Board of FCO consists primarily of individuals with extensive experience in the tropical wood products import industry, tropical forestry, and natural resources:

Board Members

Carl Gade, Chairman of the Board, Forest Carbon Offsets LLC:  Mr. Gade was with The East Asiatic Company from 1973 to 1982.  He has been with The Penrod Company (Virginia Beach, VA) since 1982 and currently serves as President/Shareholder.  He is a past-President of the International Wood Products Association, a member of the Executive Committee of the Tropical Forest Foundation, and the retiring Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tropical Forest Foundation. Mr. Gade has over 36 years experience in the international forestry, manufacturing, and distribution industry.

O. Keister Evans, President/CEO, Forest Carbon Offsets LLC:  Before taking over as President/CEO, Mr. Evans served as Executive Director/CEO of the Tropical Forest Foundation (TFF) an international nonprofit organization devoted to the promotion of sustainable forestry management.  Mr. Evans was the cofounder of TFF in 1990, past Executive Vice President of the International Wood Products Association, and past Executive Vice President of the American Horticultural Society.  He started and ran a trading company in international wood products for 10+ years.  He has 30+ years experience in the international wood products industry.

Jeff Waldon, Chief Technical Officer, Forest Carbon Offsets LLC:  Mr. Waldon is formerly the Executive Director of the Conservation Management Institute at Virginia Tech, the largest natural resources research center in the eastern United States. Mr. Waldon has 30+ years experience in conservation project development and management, and has been involved with almost one thousand research, training, and support projects in natural resources.   Mr. Waldon is a certified wildlife biologist, has spent extensive time and energy researching the process of documenting forest carbon offsets and determining cobenefits.  He has worked on projects in Belize periodically since 1989.

Wendy Baer, Secretary, Forest Carbon Offsets LLC:  Mrs. Baer is the past Executive Vice President of the International Wood Products Association, has 27+ years experience in the international wood products industry, and was a member of the Tropical Forest Foundation Board of Directors from its inception.

Dick Crutchley, Treasurer, Forest Carbon Offsets LLC:  Mr. Crutchley has been a practicing CPA since 1969.  He is a partner in Goodman and Co., the largest accounting firm in Virginia.   His public accounting responsibilities and experience include financial statement reports of all types -- audit, review and compilation -- as well as income tax preparation.  He has worked extensively with clients in the areas of tax and financial planning.  Mr. Crutchley has been an advisor to the Tropical Forest Foundation since its inception in 1991.

Gerald Gilbert, Advisor, Forest Carbon Offsets LLC:  Mr. Gilbert is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, in Washington, D.C.; retired as a senior partner in the international law firm of Hogan and Hartson, where he founded the international trade practice group, and was one of the managing partners; represented a number of national and international organizations, including General Counsel to the International Wood Products Association, and the Tropical Forest Foundation (which he co-founded); was the Senior Officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve JAG Corps, retiring as a two-star Rear Admiral; was the National President of the Federal Bar Association, and serves on several Boards of Directors. 

Edward L. Flippen: Mr. Flippen is a senior counsel with McGuireWoods LLP (1999-present) a large law firm based in Richmond, VA. He also serves as a lecturer in Energy Regulation and Policy at Duke University and the University of Virginia and other national and international forums.  He was a partner (1981-1999), Mays & Valentine (now TroutmanSanders) and Assistant General Counsel, Duke Energy, 1980-81.

George Murphy:  Mr. Murphy is the Chairman and CEO of The Murphy Companies, which represent a number of Fortune 50 and Fortune 500 companies, handling energy-related legislative and regulatory issues and acting on clients’ behalf at the Virginia General Assembly and State Corporation Commission. He has served as a member of the Tropical Forest Foundation Board of Directors.
